Rumene Manor

Kandava District, Latvia

Rūmene Manor is a luxury country estate offering guests an unparalleled experience in the Baltics.  It the perfect place for a special private getaway with family and friends and is an ideal venue for events, featuring elegant accommodations, a stunning park with a private lake and a 9-approach golf course.

History

The estate was established by the Teutonic Order, and an original deed dating from 1344 was discovered. Over the centuries, it has been inhabited by numerous Baltic-German families, who built successive manor houses on the estate. The current Main Manor House is a neo-Gothic gem dating from 1876.  It was designed by the architect Theodor Heinrich Seyler at a time when this architectural style was popular throughout Europe.

The system of outdoor steps and terraces connecting the Main Manor House with the park is considered to be a unique Neo-Renaissance example of this style in Latvia.]

Covering almost seven hectares, the estate’s park was designed in 1892 by landscape architect Georg Friedrich Kuphaldt, who also designed the Arkādijas and Viesturdārzs parks in Riga.

The current owners, Justs Karlsons and Dana Beldiman Karlsons, purchased the property in a very sorry state and then spent years restoring the estate. Renowned Latvian architect Zaiga Gaile led the reconstruction of the manor complex, garnering the Latvian Association of Architects award for Best Reconstruction Project in 2008. Contemporary design elements and comfort seamlessly blend with restored finishings to create a timeless atmosphere.

Golf

In the spring of 2015 a private golf course was opened for the demanding needs of the guests. It is a 4-hole course with the possibility to play a 9-hole game. The shortest (par 3) hole is only 64 metres long; the elevated green and the sand trap on the right side require a precise shot. The longest hole (par 5) is 423 metres long providing the opportunity to use a wood rather than an iron.
